What is 6d?

6d is an app that gives you a public profile, blog, and address book on the web. It's a tool to build your online identity, the way the internet "sees" you.

What does that mean?

It means you can put your thoughts, articles, and photos in one place that you own and control. Connect and share with friends who have or are a part of a 6d app. You can host your 6d site pretty much anywhere you want. We've built it with technologies that are commonly provided on commodity hardware at any number of hosting providers. Technically, you can host it on your own computer (not for the meek). Being part of a decentralized web gives you the power to share with anyone, regardless of the social network they're on.

6d is an open source, distributed identity building framework built with PHP and SQLITE3 so that anyone can run it on commodity grade hardware.

6d is a RESTful application built on top of HTTP. Each instance of 6d is a node on the world wide web that is capable of sending messages to each other. In addition, since it's opened source, you can build applications on top of it and extend it as you see fit.
